Not Just One Word…

I’ve sought after the “one” word for a New Year before.  I’ve even had an “unword” one year.  But this year, I have a verse for 2016.  Not just one word, but many!

Let me share my verse with you…

“For in Christ, neither our most conscientious religion nor disregard of religion amounts to anything. What matters is something far more interior; faith expressed in love.” Galatians 5:6 The Message

I have been praying and asking God what verse he had for me in 2016.  As I would skim through pages of the bible, (The Message version) the Lord slowed me down from skimming through His word, to a search and study of what He wanted me to adopt as my very own.

In my slowing down and searching, I kept going back to this one verse in Galatians that I had highlighted a couple of years ago. Knowing this was the verse to claim, the one I truly believe my Papa God led me to, had me looking at specific words within the verse.

I kept coming back to the word interior…I know what that word means, but wanted to look it up and write down the definition for it.

The very first definition that came up on my Google search was from dictionary.reference.com.

interior: being within; inside of anything; internal; inner; further toward a center: the interior rooms of a house.

I confess right now, I’m not always a loving person…and to be perfectly honest, there are those that I just don’t want to love, or even know how to love?  Am I a lone wolf here, or can you relate!

This is what Paul tells us about love…

“If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t have love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:1-2 The Message

We can be so conscientious, (wishing to do what is right, especially to do one’s work or duty well and thoroughly) with religion, that we miss the love…We can even disregard religion if we choose to, and miss the love. We are to love others. Period.  Love them as Jesus loves us. The interior deep within in us, where are hearts are, we are to love. If we believe and have faith who Jesus says He is, we are to express His love for others!

What matters is something far more interior; faith expressed in love

Dear Jesus, help me to love others in this new year as you love us!

The Author

Hey there....so glad you dropped by! My name is Elizabeth Maxwell, but everyone knows me as "Beth." I am the wife to Kevin Maxwell of 35 years. We have 3 grown sons, one daughter-in-law, and our adopted daughter Maria. God laid on our hearts to experience the adoption journey in 2000. Our sweet Maria is special needs and from Bulgaria. God has truly been with us every step of the way on our journey with her. I live in the beautiful foothills state of Tennessee. I love my beautiful Tennessee home. From the foothills to the whippoorwills, God's beauty shines forth here. I love to laugh often. I enjoy old movies, reading books, and I love to sing southern gospel songs, especially the ones with a little bit of country. I love my sweet little job, working with Kindergartners...and yes "kids do say the darndest things!" I am encouraged by God's word and I love to dig into it. I am by no means a scholarly expert, but I do delight in His encouragement for me. I am a friend of God...after all, God's got my back! And not just my back - "He goes before me." (Deuteronomy 31:8) "He's right beside me." (Hebrews 13:5) and, "He surrounds me on every side." (Psalm 125:2) These verses remind me that I am not alone while traveling on this "Journey Called Life!" Won't you travel with me? While on this journey, I may share a recipe, a book, or even a movie or song that I love....but most of all I want to share God's word with you. My prayer is that you will be encouraged, and know that you are not alone on this journey called life!

  1. I think God puts difficult people in our lives to stretch and grow our faith! As we love others, our love for Jesus becomes stronger!

    • Thank you Debbie…my sentiments exactly! God’s blessings upon you and your family for the year ahead of us!
