If I’m reading a good book and the TV is on, I usually tune out the TV. But something piqued my interest while the news was on the other day. I was watching CBS news. It was one of those “good” news stories instead of right the opposite, which is probably why I tune all that other junk out.
I Googled this news story and the first one that appeared was on The Huffington Post. You may or may not have seen this story. It’s worth reading;
Hundreds Of Mysterious ‘Love’ Signs Appear All Over New Orleans
Hundreds of mystery signs with the word, “LOVE” printed in bold, red letters have appeared all over New Orleans over the course of seven weeks, according to WWLTV. The artists responsible planted the signs using maps from the city’s police department. They will later cross reference their points with crime statistics to see whether the signs had a positive effect on the area, CBS News reports.
While some have mistaken the signs as a promotion, the pair of artists, who choose to remain anonymous, assert their message is simple. They just want to spread love.
The pair explains that their project is meant to be a “social experiment.”
“I believe the power of language and words can transform,” one of the artists told CBS. “And the more you think it, the more you speak it, the more real it becomes.”
The artists, who are both unemployed, told the source that one of them had fallen into a small inheritance. Instead of spending the money for personal use, they undertook this experiment.
The project already seems to have had an effect on some passersby. One observer, Daniel Thelen told WWLTV, “That one word can lift your spirit in any way it needs to in that moment.”
Pretty good story huh? You think Moses kind of had this same idea when he said this…
“Love God, your God, with your whole heart; love with all that’s in you, love with all you’ve got!” Deuteronomy 6:5 MSG
Moses went on further to say…
“Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; (here is what’s really neat, look at what comes next…) inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates.” verses 6-9 MSG
I don’t know if these two artists have a personal relationship with Jesus. It sounds kind of mysterious in how this all came about. And even if the two artists did not mean for this to be a spiritual message to people, God can use anything or anyone to get his message across. I couldn’t help but think of this verse that Moses breathes from the pages of Deuteronomy for us.
Another verse that came to mind when this news story aired is from James…
“Post this at all the intersections, dear friends: Lead with your ears, follow up with your tongue, and let anger straggle along in the rear.” James 1:19 MSG
We can’t help but love after following James’ 3-step advise. Without actually saying the word “love“, it’s there between the lines… so post it at your intersections and on your city gates. LOVE
