On this Valentine’s Day we will see hearts everywhere and on just about everything. Hearts are the symbol of LOVE.
From our hearts flow life….
“Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.” Proverbs 4:23 NASB
In 1 Samuel we see a description of the heart, one for us to take note of…Samuel was looking for a new king to replace Saul, he trusted God to lead him, and even though he was trusting you can’t help but believe his choice may have been different from God’s.
David, a shepherd boy who loved God with all his heart, was God’s choice.
“But God told Samuel, “Looks aren’t everything. Don’t be impressed with his looks and stature. God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 MSG
How appropriate to talk about the heart on this special day.
If you want to know what a heart pouring out to God looks like, go the book of Psalms and just sit a spell.
David was open and very honest before God. Holding nothing back.
He knew who his rock and redeemer was, having a heart in pleasing Him…
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:14 NASB
He knew about being brokenhearted…
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those that are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18 NASB
He knew who strengthened his heart…
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26 NASB
He knew who to depend on, and with this verse, which is one of my favorites, I have personalized it for myself! Go ahead and give it a try…God wants us to!
“I’m depending on God; he’s everything I need. What’s more my heart brims with joy since I’ve taken for my own his holy name. Love me, God, with all you’ve got – that’s what I’m depending on.” Psalm 33:20-22 MSG
“It’s your heart, not the dictionary, that gives meaning to your words.” ~ Jesus Matthew 12:35 MSG
